The Ponte Vecchio, Firenze
(the "old Bridge")

PONTE VECCHIO - One of just a handful or habitable bridges left anywhere in the world.  Home to jewellers shop, the "old bridge" is a visual delight spanning the River Arno in a way that even the masters of Victorian engineering could not equal.

The Ponte Vecchio is the only bridge that was left intact by the Germans as they retreated from Florence during WW2.  The other bridges you see across the River Arno were blown up before the Allied forces reached them.
