Austin, Morris 1800 'Landcrabs'
Go to Austin Cars Austin and Morris 1800/2200 and Wolseley 18/85 and Wolseley Six cars, plus the Austin 3-litre

Austin 1800. The 'Big Mini' or 'Lancrab' Austin 1800 was launched in 1966 with a transverse 1800cc engine driving the front wheels.
Austin 3-litre. Conceived as a replacement for the aged Westminster 6/110 and siblings, the 3-litre was given the code ADO61 and developed from 1963 until launch in 1968. It was powered by a 125bhp version of the C-series engine now with 7bearing crankshaft.
Morris 1800 MkII. 1800s were restyled in 1968 as the MkII version. The grilles of the Austin and Morris were narrowed to resemble those of the 1100/1300 cars and also to make the car look less wide.
Morris 1800 MkIII. The main visible difference of the MkIII was the black paint and chrome grille. Mechanically the MkIII was the same, but there was a new 2200cc model.
Morris 1800 Rally Car. Believed to be one of the London-Sydney cars, these works cars had 1894cc 100bhp engine built for durability rather than outright power
Wolseley Six - Six Cylinder 2227cc power
Austin 1800. In 1956 Project XC9001 started to make a successor to the BMC 1500cc cars, and in 1958 this rear wheel drive design was rejigged to become a large front wheel drive car (ADO17) looking a bit like a blown up Mini, and named the Austin 1800.
Austin 1800. From XC9001 to XC9005 and finally into ADO17, the Austin 1800. 221,000 of the Austion 1800 and later 2200 were produced
Austin 1800 Mk II. Launched in 1968 the MkII 1800s tried to address the 'lack of styling' criticism by changing the grille and adding finned rear lights
Austin 1800 Mk II. The finned rear lights of this MkII 1800 can be seen here, and this ran from 1968 until the MkIII version in 1972.
Austin 3-litre. Conceived as a replacement for the aged Westminster 6/110 and siblings, the 3-litre was given the code ADO61 and developed from 1963 until launch in 1968

Austin 3-litre - headlamp. The car was originally designed with quad headlamps, but was mysteriously launched with single 'square' headlamps. Before any cars were sold the quad lamps had been reinstated.

Morris 1800 MkII. In 1968 the much criticised style of the 1800 was revised with the narrower grille of the 1800 MkII
Morris 1800 MkII. The MkII 1800s were given finned lights giving them a 'family' resemblance with the 1100/1300 range and trying to make the car look less wide.
Morris 1800 MkIII. The MkIII model was introduced in 1972 very little changed outside but with an optional 2200cc model
Morris 1800 Rally Car. In 1968 the Morris 1800 was offered with a 96bhp twin carb engine as the 1800 S. Rally versions of the 1800 had some surprising sucesses, including almost winning the 1968 London-Sydney Marathon
Morris 1800 Rally Car. Although a big car, the 1800 did surprisingly well on some rallies. The size of the car permitted a third crew member on Marathon events, and even allowed a bed to be made inside.
Wolseley 18/85. Launched in 1967, the Wolseley 18/85 was a luxury version of the Austin/Morris 1800 and 35,000 were sold.
Wolseley Six. In 1972 the MkIII Landcrabs got a new sibling, a more powerful car fitted with a 6cylinder version of of 4cylinder E-series Maxi engine. The compact 2227cc engine developed 110bhp and was lighter than the old iron B-series engine.
Wolseley Six. The series II and Series III versions of the Wolseley 1800 cars retained the original 'cows hips' rear corners and side lamps. The Wolseley Six used the same body.
Austin 1800. Pininfarina was asked to restyle the XC9005 project and produced one study that included six light window format. This design was taken forward as the ADO17 but changed by the Austin Drawing Office into the car launched as the Austin 1800
Austin 3-litre - doors. The doors on the ADO61 were created for the ADO17 1800/2200 range and also used on the ADO15 (Maxi) as well as some Australian derivatives.

Austin 1800 MkII. In 1968 an attempt was made to give the 1800 'style' by adding finned taillights.
